Smile Makeover Procedures

Your guide to smile makeover surgery and how to get whiter teeth
Smile makeover Surgery involves undergoing a variety of cosmetic dental procedures that enhance the smile and provide whiter teeth. These procedures transform your smile and take away the obvious aging shown by your teeth; hence they are called smile makeovers. It’s important for those undergoing these procedures to remember that it involves smile makeover surgery and is more complicated than just getting whiter teeth. Candidates for smile makeovers include those with crooked teeth, those with chipped or broken teeth, those with gaps between their teeth, those with gummy smiles, stained or discolored teeth and other tooth problems. The end result is a straight, even smile with whiter teeth.

What’s involved in smile makeover surgery?
Smile makeover surgery involves getting:
  • porcelain veneers
  • porcelain crowns and/or
  • porcelain onlays.
Veneers are thin sheets of fired porcelain that are placed on the front of the teeth, offering a natural look and feel of the tooth. Veneers restore the teeth to their natural beauty and resist staining—making a long lasting white and bright smile. Porcelain crowns and onlays are similar to veneers and offer the same advantage. The cost is around £600-800 but varies depending on the work needed.

The Basics of Smile Makeover Surgery

In getting smile makeovers, a client will want to utilize an accredited dental surgeon to perform the procedure.  Dentists should be accredited by the faculty of General Dental Practice through the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Once you find the right dentist for your smile makeover, the dentist and patient will determine the particular style of the desired smile makeover. The dentist will create an impression of the patient’s existing teeth. The impression is sent to a lab with instructions as to what the teeth should look like. The laboratory then creates a waxed model of the teeth’s new look. After the patient and doctor agree on the appearance of the waxed model and make any changes needed, the lab is given the approval to make the new teeth for the smile makeover.

The dentist prepares the teeth and takes a new impression of the teeth with a temporary version of the new smile makeover look. Three to four weeks later, the temporaries are removed and the final restorations are bonded to the new teeth.

The Technology of Whiter Teeth

Each dentist employs a different set of technologies to help him or her but there are some common technologies used to create whiter teeth. One of those is an intraoral camera, which is a small, pen-like camera that projects a magnified image of the teeth on a screen to help the dentist diagnose the problems. A dental imaging technique also allows the dentist to reveal a digital image of the teeth as an example of what the new smile makeover will look like. Most smile makeovers will provide a digital image of what the patient will look like with renewed, whiter teeth. Computerized jaw tracking or a bite analysis system will help the doctor measure the proper height of the patient’s bite so that the smile is not only whiter but is comfortable for the mouth.
