Facelift Cosmetic Surgery
The facelift is an extremely popular tried and tested procedure which 'winds the clock back' by reversing the effects of gravity - refreshing the face, improving the contour of the neck, removing the heavy, tired look and revitalising the face.
In both men and women the incision used in facelift surgery is the same; starting high in the temple area (hidden by the hair at this point) the incision travels down in front of the ear, round the earlobe and up behind the ear before curving gently back into the hair at the neck; occasionally it is necessary to add an incision under the chin. Using these incisions the skin and deep tissues are remodelled and re-draped and the incisions are then closed. The surgeon usually then applies a head bandage in order to pressurise (gently) the incisions during the post operative night.
The bandage is removed the day after facelift surgery; your hair will then be carefully washed and you may then return home. Over the next few days your hair should be washed daily, obviously exercising care where there are stitches. Taking a mild painkiller, such as Paracetamol, can control any discomfort.
Stitches are usually removed between five and ten days after facelift surgery. The only scar normally visible is in front of the ear; this scar will normally fade to a natural skin colour and texture over the months following the procedure and, fortunately, is usually inconspicuous. Of course, when the scar is fading, it can be camouflaged by make-up.
If possible patients are recommended to allow for 10-14 days off work in the post-operative period following facelift surgery.
